RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECT JUBA - SUDAN
A proposal for a Residential project in Juba , southern Sudan. The plot of land assigned is about 1,000,000 million square meters in area , 1000 x1000 meters . It is located near by the Nile and a couple of Kilometers outside central Juba toward the north.
The main target of this proposed layout is a residential compound , housing a wide range of units, thus accommodating a large variety of:
Semi attached houses ( one and two storey houses)
Attached townhouses ( one and two storey houses)
Apartments , from 1- 3 bedrooms ( two and three storey units)
Studio apartments ( two and three storey units)
The compound will have a central service district containing the following:
Commercial area .
Schooling and kinder gardens.
Clinics and a small Hospital.
Police + fire station.
Administrative building/s
Club house and green area/s.
three proposed layouts proposed for the project. The three basically differ from one other in the density of the number of plots and thus the population of the compound in each proposal.
Proposal A is the highest density, with a min number of internal roads, thus not all plots have direct access to the internals road network
Proposal B is the lowest density, whereby most of the housing plots, in there various sizes have direct access to an internal road.
Proposal C . This proposal has the intermediate density , and in average half the number of plots have access to the internal roads.
In all proposals the same housing units models were used.
Taking in consideration was:
The climate of the area which affected the design.
The use of some local materials with the integration of outsource materials was taken.
The environmental concept was taken into consideration , whereby material cooling systems were considered ,such as insultative hollow walls , pitched roof with natural cooling and ventilation system , internal courtyards ( patios) and many others.
